Recently, there has been a surge in police encounters in Punjab. Many people believe that these encounters, which often involve young individuals, are staged. There is a growing perception that some police officers may be conducting these encounters to advance their careers. We interviewed Sardar Rajwinder Singh Bains, a senior high court lawyer and an activist with the Punjab Human Rights Organisation (PHRO). Mr. Bains is also the lawyer for Amritpal Singh, a Member of Parliament who has been detained in Dibrugarh Jail, Assam, since April 2023.
